It is a big day for the Afghan Women’s Centre! Today we are holding a Collective Kitchen session as well as the first session for our book project! Members gathered in the kitchen to reconnect, cook a delicious feast of two-onion chicken and Afghan tea and cookies, and welcome our two esteemed guests, Penny Rankin and Linda Serpone of the Montreal Council of Women. As we sat to eat, conversations about culture, feminism, education, and our upcoming book erupted. The book aims at bringing together senior Canadian citizens and senior immigrant women by having them share their stories. We hope this project will help break down the barriers of language, ageism, stereotypes, and discrimination in the journeys of immigrants and Canadians seniors. We are so thankful to the participants of our book project and of this delicious meal.
