Summer Picnic Event

This last weekend, the Afghan Women’s Centre was delighted to come together once again with diverse communities, members, family, friends, volunteers, and partners for a picnic at the beautiful Parc de Dieppe in the context of celebrating Afghan cultural heritage and breaking social isolation.

We want to thank everyone who was able to attend, especially those travelling from other cities: your attendance is a testament to the importance of cultural and social connection, and how crucial it is for newly arrived and racialized women to have a shared space. A speech by our Centre’s Founder and President, Makai Aref, allowed us to reflect on this matter as well as the situation in Afghanistan.

We are extremely pleased that we were all able to have this opportunity to connect and to strengthen ties here in Canada, while also reflecting on and celebrating our heritage.
